Just because they lived in Stratford - I was wondering if it might be the address where they are on the 1911 census? On Edward's daughter's death cert he lives in Sheppey so I thought maybe while he was away at war, his wife was living with her mother and he had his pay sent there?

I saw the Bristol Road address on the service record, but the Ancestry index says: 32 Angel Lane, Stratford. This is where Louisa Varney was living in 1911. Thanks Kate, I wouldn't have noticed that!
I wonder if that address was an eel pie shop as both Edward Hitch and Louisa Varney both had that occupation.

The Varney's all drifted into Kent over the next 25 years or so!
