The 1940 and 1950 censuses haven't been released yet, have they? I think I saw something saying the 1940 would be released next year?

Well they aren't on Ancestry only 1920 and 1930 are.

I think there are voters lists for California.

Great! Thank you, Maggie. So in 1920 Lily's sister, my mother's Auntie Ethel, had come over from England and was living with them.

Also, they already had Nellie whose mother (according to Nellie's daughter) died 8 days after childbirth of bowel blockage which could have been prevented, but there was apparently no decent medical care to be had since all the doctors were off to war. Nellie's father was obligated to go wherever he was stationed and ship out (in the U.S. Merchant Marine, I believe). Nellie grew up in the Berry family and Lily wanted to adopt her legally, but in the end Nellie's father declined and Nellie returned to her father after about a decade, when she was 12 or 13 years old. A little piece of history is illuminated.

I'm sure you're right about the U.S.censuses, Kite. If 1940 is released next year that will be interesting.
