Woodthorpe family
Winifred Windross's birth was registered Apr-Jun 1888 Guisborough district, MMN Woodtharp.

On the 1901 census Sarah is 42 born Driffield. Sarah Woodtharp / Woodthorp birth registered Jan-Mar 1859 Driffield, MMN McColey. There is a William Woodthorpe birth Oct-Dec 1861 Scarborough, MMN McAuley, who may or may not belong to the same parents. The nearest I can find for the marriage of Sarah's parents is a possible William Woodthorp / Ann McColley marriage Jan-Mar 1858 Beverley. Can anyone find Sarah on the 1861 or 1871 census, please? |

Hmm, there is also the marriage of a John Woodthorp, 26, bachelor, miner, abode Belmontgate, to Martha Hawman 28 Jan 1885 at Guisborough. His father is Charles Woodthorp (deceased), miner.
And banns for William Woodthorp OTP widower and Hannah Twelves OTP widow Dec 1877 also at Guisborough. |

Looks as though John Woodthorpe died a year after his marriage, aged 28, and Martha remarried in 1887. So no point looking for them in 1891.

Okay, I've found a tree which says that Hannah Twelves, widow, was born Hannah Moore and she married Joseph Twelves 10 Oct 1849 at Worksop, her father being John Moore, labourer. This is getting exciting, because she might just turn out to be related to my Moores from the Worksop area. I started on this whole thing because I had a new DNA match, on my mother's side, none of whose family on any other branch seemed to come from anywhere near any of mine, so I was hoping this branch might be the connection. Except of course Hannah wasn't married to a Woodthorpe when Sarah was born!

John was John and Martha's son s 6 January 1886.
It looks as if he is in an Industrial School in 1901, with birthplace given as Gainsborough, Lincs.
