The section about the man finding his father in the USA via a DNA test is referring to an episode of Long Lost Family - Born Without Trace which was on ITV this week, and there was plenty of explanation as to why his mother abandoned him in the episode. I could have done without the author of the newsletter linking it to a recent criminal case.
