Default FMP newspaper search

In its wisdom, FMP has updated the newspaper search.

I used it a couple of days ago and found it no improvement at all on the previous search facility. Furthermore, I can't find the filter for type of article. I used to use it a lot to identify family announcements of births, marriages and deaths.

Has anyone else used it since it was changed?

I think it's much worse than the old one. Now I search on the British Newspaper Archive website first and only go onto FMP when I know what I want to look at.

I agree, Kate. I sent them a message asking about the filters.

I hate any change, and am finding using the filters challenging, but it does have the excellent improvement of showing when a newspaper was uploaded, so you can see what you haven't searched before.

I never found the filters for article type worked on the old system. At least, if you asked for Family announcements (or whatever it was called) most seemed to be excluded from the results.

What I dislike the most now is the date after every entry saying when it was added to the database. I know that's useful, but I keep expecting it to say the date of the entry, which is less obvious, being just above the other date. I suppose I'll get used to it. Other than that, I've not noticed any differences.

Not sure when it was updated but the article type hasn't been working for a while now. About 2 months ag0 I discovered a branch that featured prominently in the newspapers and I would have been rather grateful to be able to sort the article types.
