Default Week 8 - Charles William Snelgrove

Charles Snelgrove was born in 1887 in Southampton, Hampshire. He was the son of Charles Snelgrove and his wife, Elizabeth nee Fidler.

On 9th Jan 1908 Charles married Emma Jane Porter at St Martins church in Salisbury. By 1911 two daughters had been born, but only the younger, Dorothy Ellen, had survived. They would go on to have two more children.

Charles joined the 119th Bty Royal Field Artillery as a Driver (81637) at the end of 1914 and was posted to France at the end of March 1915.

He was killed on 27th November 1915 and was buried at Lapugnoy Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France which had only been opened a few weeks before.

(Charles' widow, Emma, went on to marry Samuel Alexander Montgomery in Southampton. They had one son who is named as my OH's father on his birth certificate, though he isn't OH's father)
