Trouble is, your relying on his occ plus their ages being right on the cert as you don't know either fo their fathers names. I bet the ages say full (unless she was a minor, and even then it may say full!) so you may be relying purely on the occ for John.

If you are going to go for it, I would def contact Merthyr reg office and ask them to look at both. Hopefully you will get a sympathetic registrar!!

Thank you for all your input Merry (so far, hehe) - I think that I will try contacting the Merthyr Reg. office and see if they can help me find the right one.

Either way, I am still fruitlessly searching for them in 1861, married or single,....so I do hope that when I find the right marriage cert it might give a clue as to where they were living

This is a possible for Ann in 1861:

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?...=&pid=13642905

I don't think the place of birth is a real place, so it could be an attempt on.....erm.....whatever her place of birth was (I know it was similar! lol)

You are such a star for plugging on Merry. Thank you.

Ann was born in Llangyndeirn, and looking at that census return it could indeed have been an attempt at that name (whatever it is that they have written it is not recognisable} - certainly the birth is correct. If that is our Ann, then the correct marriage has to be the 1863 one doesn't it. (I have just written an email to the Merthyr Reg Office, so hopefully they will be nice and confirm it).

Drat, have heard back from the Merthyr Reg. Office and they have searched and searched but no record of a marriage between John Jones and Ann Harris.

They have suggested two other "fringe" offices to try and I will write to them.

Maybe though, I will just bite the bullet and send off for the one in 1863 (as you originally suggested Merry) - time is not on my side here as Christmas looms fast

lol!!

I don't know how the GRO works now.....we don't know that those people married each other in 1863 as either of them may have married any of the others (of the opposite sex!) with the same page number. In the past you could have had the GRO check for a few £s and not send it if they didn't marry each other, but it's different now I think?

Maybe someone else can confirm????
