Default (41) Alick Mills, Pte 8332 Royal Sussex Regt, then Pte 28271 8th Bn East Surrey Regt

Born in Wivelsfield, Sussex in 1884 to William, a labourer, and Mary Ann Mills, he was christened at St John the Baptist, Wivelsfield on 31 August 1884. Alick became a butcher, he was in lodgings in Wivelsfield Road, Haywards Heath in 1911 as his mother had died and his elderly father had gone to live with Alick’s brother William and his wife Annie in nearby Franklynn Road.

Alick died of wounds on 4 May 1917 at Arras, aged 33 and is buried at Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux in France, grave I. E. 18. Both his parents had died before him and his next of kin was his brother William of 50 Sussex Road.

It was William who received £6 as a War Grauity, and he with his other brother and two sisters each received £3 6s 2d of his Alick’s effects owed.
