This is the family in 1620: https://archive.org/details/visitati.../n311/mode/2up
Arthur, son of John married Gertrude daughter of Hugh Fortescue. His sons were John, living 1620, Henry, Hugh and Arthur and daughter Elizabeth. John signed the visitation.

I assume, since this was a contemporary family tree, that Gertrude WAS John’s mother, and that Anne and Gertrude junior were dead by 1620, since they are not named. It also seems likely that Arthur did not mention his daughters in 1617 because they were dead or married (and any husband had had their marriage portion) Elizabeth had married John Hele and probably had died giving birth to their son Arthur Hele as by 1620 John Hele was married again with another two small children.

According to parish records, Arthur Upton married Catheren Fortescue February 1584 in Weare Giffard, Devon

Okay so far?
Any bright ideas on disentangling Catherine from Gertrude? Was Elizabeth a full sister of John born 1590? Each time I look at the information, I get more confused.
