None of the children seem to have useful middle names, and this isn't a direct line, so I have no certificates. I'll have a look for Sarahs born Bayswater, to see if that throws anything up.

Off topic, but they have gone for a modern layout in the church. I can understand the reasoning for flexibility, but I'd rather have the old pews. My Gran would hate it.

Hmm. There is a Sarah Preater in Croydon in 1881 and a Sarah Preater marries a James Broomfield in Lambeth in 1883.

I kept looking at that one, Phoenix, but wondered if it was slightly late. (You said a son ws born in 1882?) However, it's a good area. Without buying ther certificate it would be difficult to know.

Got him!
James Bloomfield [sic] at 6 Robin Hood Terrace, Sutton, aged 22 b Kensington, harness maker, lodging with *fanfare of trumpets* Henry Preater of Bayswater. Thank you, Elizabeth, for nudging me in the right direction. Thank goodness I live in Croydon & travel regularly to Sutton, so recognised (belatedly) they were adjacent.

Wallington is just to the east of Sutton.
So pleased we got them in the end. |
