Maria died in 1901
Maria Baker Dec qtr 1901 aged 83 Pontypool 11a 113 Can't find a baptism on the IGI, doesn't appear to list Monmouthshire amongst it's options for county. Marriage cert will give you his fathers name though.

Cheers Marg you have been hard at it ;;
Just had alll the certs out to check things ;; on George'e marriage cert to my G Gran he has put father John Baker General Labourer, so how Howie came to give me this family I carnt remember properly I think it was to do with George saying he was 32 in 1885 making him b 1853 I got in touch with the place who deals with BC for pontypool and they said the cert I had was the only one in time range, and that was this family ???? thats what makes me wonder about it, so just feel I carnt claim them as mine yet ;;; Does that sound right to you??? No, something doesn't sound right.
When and where was your George born? (just noticed 1853) Was he George Baker? Do you have George on a census with his parents at all?

Babs, you have a thread about George Baker on Rootschat where you say that the George who was born in Trostery is still with parents William and Maria on the 1881 census when your George was in Middlesbrough, so that George isn't yours.

Kate See #8 on this thread. 1881 is just William and Maria, no children at all. Babs, did you ever buy George Baker's birth cert? I've just been looking at the TOGG thread for him and you never said if you got it or not.

I'm wondering where the name George William came from. He is only George on the marriage cert and only George on the 1881 census.
Was it just invented? Should we be looking for George or George William?
