I can see a lot of work is involved but unless it is someone of extreme importance to you, I can't see many people taking up this option.

In the old A2A days, I found a will I desperately wanted, which was being held by a Solicitor in Salisbury. My daughter was working in Salisbury so I sent her round to get a copy. They wanted £165! I said no and was so glad I did, because it later turned up in the records office, cost me nothing to look at and it was useless as well!
