I wouldn't be surprised if it started life as some grand mansion, then became a nursing home and then was pulled down to build flats. The flats were new in 1970, but I don't know if Stagsden was there right up until that date.

Still slightly off topic, but this thread was discussing WILLIAM HATCH, Licensed Parish Clerk of Portsea Parish and Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages.
He died in 1881 and I have taken advantage of the £1.50 charge for copies of wills, so I have just downloaded and transcribed his will. I was pleased to see that James Purkis, his brother-in-law and my 2x-great-grandfather and father of Joseph Thomas Purkis, was one of the executors of his will. The other one was Annie Mary Cleverly, his granddaughter, who married just a few months before his death. Her husband became Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages too. |
