I would think the best thing to do is to order that marriage certificate and see what his occupation is so you know whether it's the right one or not.

I am finally going back over my posts and chasing up things I don't know. So now, I have a copy of James Arnold and Mary Fitzpatrick[s marriage certificate.
A few small surprises, aside from their fathers names! 21 June 1849 at the Registry Office James Arnold, 34years, widower, fustian cutter of 61 Hanover St, Manchester, father Richard Arnold, labourer. Mary Fitzpatrick, 21 years, spinster, of 29 Back Hanover St, Manchester, father James Fitzpatrick, fustian cutter. A big age gap, perhaps explained by the fact that James was a widower. From her father's occupation, I could think that he also came from Ireland to Manchester (would they have had many fustian cutters in Ireland ?) So the son James Arnold who is with them in 1851 (age 5 in 1851) is not Mary's child, but I don't know who his mother is, or if he was really born in Manchester. One small step, at a time. Still no idea what part of Ireland they might be from, or where to start. I guess first stop will be Griffiths Valuations and then familysearch. |
