I think that as some of us are getting back before the census it might be useful to add some research notes.
Joseph first appears in his grandfather's will died 1809 as son of Thomas. His father inherited a house in Bitton Gloucestershire and Joseph was also left a small legacy. The rate schedule for Bitton in 1830 survives and shows which fields Thomas owned. I first got Thomas's wife's name from a death reference of one of the children who emigrated to Australia. The marriage was close to his wife's place of birth and some distance from where I was looking. The only reference I found to the babies who died was the inscription on the gravestone. |
