Isaac Smith and Ann Also in the household is Herbert Ison. What is the relationship? I know it says Son in Law but part of that is crossed out and something else written above it. What?

I was thinking that if Herbert Ison was a step-son-in-law of Isaac Smith then Herbert's wife would be Isaac's step-daughter and therefore the child of Ann Smith with whatever her previous surname was.
