I've no idea where that story comes from, Maggie, and there are no sources for it. My man definitely went to Australia. Anyway as Napoleon died in 1821 on St Helena it's hardly likely to be my man! Thanks for looking though.

Edit: Mark's father was John Pewter and the story seems to relate to this John's father being another Mark which would fit in timewise. I have never been able to get to the bottom of this.
