As I was entering my Mc names on the new surname database, I noticed your McGilthighnich entry, which sparked my interest, as I seem to spend a lot of time roaming through the records for Kintyre, Islay, Jura and Gigha.

You reckon he may have been born on Islay or Jura. Just a thought, but he may have connections with the Campbeltown area, as the town had a large number of distilleries at the time in question (more than Islay). The Jura distillery wasn't opened until 1810. Islay had a good number of distilleries, with Bowmore and Lagavulin in operation in the 18th century. Why I had an inkling he may have connections with Campbeltown, apart from the whisky, is the Galbreath marriage. There are lots of Galbreaths/Galbraiths in Campbeltown and surrounding parishes. Also, there was a brewer in Campbeltown named Archibald Galbreath in the 1840s/1850s.
