This is a very sad tale. They were both born in the same year, in Herefordshire villages. As they left for London and married there, aged 22, in view of the social etiquette of the day it looks like an elopement otherwise they would have been married locally.

They settled in a seedy area of London, what is now known as Soho, and had two boys. Both parents died of TB aged 34 and one of the boys died too. I have been unable to trace the movements of the surviving boy, my grandfather, until he became an adult. Family lore says he ran away and ended working on the railways in India - where he did rather well for himself and became a Freemason.
