Default Week 19 - Walter Wilfred Cecil Mitchell

Walter Wilfred Cecil Mitchell b(known as Wilfred) was born on 17 July 1897 at Horfield in Gloucestershire. His parents were William Thomas Mitchell and Susan Mary nee Mills.

Wilfred joined the 3rd battalion of The Worcestershire Regiment (Private 35820) in 1916. He died on 14 Jan 1918 and was buried at Cologne Southern Cemetery (XIV. H. 26).

As Wilfred died in German territory it seems likely he had been a prisoner of war before his death. More than 1,000 Allied prisoners and dozens of German servicemen were buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery during the First World War. The majority of the other 1500 graves at Cologne Southern Cemetery are those of relocated burials performed after the armistice.
