Well I got the death certificate and it is indeed the correct one as it was registered by her daughter Barbara McLaren living at the same address as the 1851 census.

However it says that Margaret is the widow of a William Horn(e) not the John Hope I was expecting.

I then looked at the 1841 census and a William Horn is living in Berwick on Tweed but not with Margaret - the address is Crawfords Alley which is where Barbara was born in 1830.

So it seems that Margaret married this William Horn(e) between 1841 and 1849 when I believe he died in Berwick - will have to send off for that death certificate.
However I cannot find a marriage for them either in Berwick or Scotland so wonder if indeed they were married.
