29th of the Old Boys of St Wilfrid's School, Haywards Heath to lose his life in the Great War.
Albert was one of the six children of Frederick John Nye, a painter, and Jemima Nye. Albert was born on 19 Sep 1886, in 1891 and 1901 lived in Gower Road, Haywards Heath.
He and his sister Rose emigrated to Canada, Albert sailed from Liverpool on 7th June 1906 for Quebec and it was in Canada that he enlisted in the army on 22nd August 1914. He was 5’8” tall, with a fresh complexion, with brown hair and brown eyes.
He was killed in action at Hooge on 2nd June 1916 aged 29, and has no known grave but is remembered of the Menin Gate memorial for the missing. His father died a few weeks later. Glenbow Museum in Alberta has 3 photographs of him
