Never pinned him down, the closest I can come to anything definitve is that his children were registered in Hartlepool between 1876 and 1882, the family then moved to Lincoln, a son drowned in Lincoln in April 1885 and my grandfather was born there in Sep 1885.
One thing I never did was get a cert for his children save for my grandfather and right now I don't have his voyage details in front of me, not that they give his address but they do give dates and destinations.
In summary
1851 and 1861, living with his parents at Berwick, 1871 missing (at sea?), 1881 his wife quotes he is at sea and then the move to Lincoln between 1882 and 1885, he died prior to the 1891 census.
