My mother (Walter's daughter, and niece by marriage to Edmund) always said she couldn't imagine Edmund fighting or being organised enough to be allowed to be in charge of other people, never mind be awarded the MC and two bars! In civilian life he worked for Barclays Bank in London where is was middle management in their personnel department and Walter was an architect.
