I have since found out Frederick's baptism

5 Nov 1837, St James, Church of Ireland, Dublin.

Have also discovered that at the time of baby Alfred's death, Frederick was charged with neglecting his children, Fred, Fanny, George and Alfred. They were taken into care of the NSW Benevolent Asylum, as the childrens mother was in the infirmary. Fred had left the immigration dept and claimed he had left the children while he was looking for work (it was Boxing Day).

After that he makes regular appearances at court and in the newspapers for being drunk and disorderly and an habitual drunk. in 1877-78 he was sent to the Gladesville Asylum and spent 18 months before being released into the care of his mother.

I suspect his is the death recorded at Campbelltown NSW in 1887. The certificate has no details of parentage, and says place of birth Scotland, but approximately the right amount of time in the colony and right age. The informant was no relation, William Ferguson undertaker.
