After much deliberation I decided to accept Elizabeth BUXTON although there are inconsistencies.

I first found this marriage in 2002 but as Timothy declared himself single I discounted it although by that time I did know he wasn't exactly an upright citizen.

Now after trawling through at least half the parishes in Suffolk I'm more inclined to accept it.

Timothy GOWEN m. Elizabeth BUXTON 27 Oct 1805 Shelland
Martha GOWING d. Timothy/Elizabeth (BUXTON) bap. 6 Nov 1805 Stowmarket
Martha GOWING d. Timothy bur. 12 Dec 1805 Stowmarket.

Entry from Shipmeadow Minute Books
30 Oct 1805 Timothy GOWING aged 12 (son by 1st wife) be admitted to be maintained in the House, his father being ran away & he having no person to maintain him.

Fits nicely with the info. above.

Only fly in the ointment
12 Jun 1805 Timothy GOWING's wife to be received into the House when brought.
She would have been 4 months pregnant so I suppose they had to lie or she wouldn't have been accepted. Of course Timothy's father was also Timothy & his wife was alive but the older couple tended to receive out relief when they were older.
