A great, great uncle abandoned his wife and children in the workhouse in 1888 and joined the army. So far I've found 335 entries for his poor wife - and that's before I've looked for probable mistranscriptions and alternative spellings of the relatively uncommon surname.
Although she had the "easy" forename of Hannah, I've already found her transcribed as Hauunh, Elizth, Han C, Hammock and Bridgett!
