Looking at the Manchip family, I see that on the other site you said the DNA test showed he could be a descendant of James Orchard Manchip (1846-1915). James Orchard Manchip jr (the one baptised 1878) was in the Royal Engineers, first as a Sapper and then promoted to Lance Corporal in 1905 and Corporal in 1908. So not quite an army officer, but an NCO. His records show he was serving at "home" (i.e. in the UK) between 1903 and 1907. He got married in Scotland in 1909. I haven't looked at the rest of the family yet though.
