This is a lady I know almost nothing about as my greatgrandmother was orphaned young and brought up by an uncle and aunt.

Thanks Marguette I am sure that has appeared since I last looked. I don't know about the uncle and aunt they were Thomas's brother and wife but certainly my grantparents were strong chapel folk. I like Eleanor as the mother's name as Mary's eldest daughter was Eleanor. I wish I could find her on the 1841 census as she is not with her parents.

The Mary A Baines you found in 1851 was living in Conduit Street, Leicester.

Mary Ann Baines, aged 43, of Conduit Street, Leicester, was buried at Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester, on 6th May 1858. This is a bit late to tie in with the death date in the family bible - could you have misread the month?

Also buried in the same plot are Edward Baines of Conduit St., buried on 12/5/1853 aged 15, and Eleanor Baines of Conduit St., buried on 1/1/1857 aged 20.

It looks as though Edward was at boarding school in Rothwell, Northants, in 1851.

I can't find Thomas's burial because the Welford Road records only begin in 1849.

Thanks Mary I have found out more tonight than I have in the last fifty years. I did not actually copy the bible myself a relative gave me the details. The death for Eleanor and Edward tie in with what I have already.

According to the IGI, Everard and Eleanor Hill also had the following baptised at Ebenezer Independent - Edward (1813), Eleanor (1817), Emma (1819), Elizabeth (1821) and James and Everard (both bap 1823).

An Everard Hill was buried in Uppingham on 21/6/1823, aged 42. There's no burial there for his wife Eleanor, so she may have remarried or moved elsewhere. There are quite a few Hill burials in Uppingham, including an Eleanor, infant, buried in 1818, and an Everard, infant, in 1823, who might well be Mary Ann's siblings.

How sad. James and Everard must have been twins, and were buried on the same day, 4th Sept 1823.

Can't see the others, fortunately.

The 1851 census shows an Edward Hill born in Uppingham Rutland, also with daughters named Eleanor and Emma, and Eliza. Pity they did not have any sons to name Everard !!

Sounds like one of my families, which gave all their children names beginning with A for generations :)
