FamilySearch has George Broad baptised 7 Jan 1804 St Mawgan-in-Pyder, Cornwall, parents John and Elizabeth. Also listed under Mawgan in Pyder.

Also Elizabeth Broad baptised 14 Jun 1805 at Little Petherick, parents John and Elizabeth.

Then there are some baptisms at St Ervan, including a James in 1816. Coincidence or not? Christiana 14 Mar 1808, Mary 23 Jun 1811, John 3 Apr 1814, and James 6 Sep 1816. Not far from Little Petherick.

Many thanks. I think those baptisms are interesting - will have to investigate further. A nuisance that familysearch doesn't have the Cornwall images online at the moment.

James (son of John) married Honor Brewer Pope who was born St. Ervan. James' own baptism states that his mother had given the vicar her word that he was born 1816 though his age varies a bit from that on censuses.

James and Honor also had a son named George so the 1804 baptism seems likely to be James' brother.

I wonder why they had James baptised again in a different parish? If its the same family,of course.

Nell, I'm sure one of the Cornwall records of baptism of my family, had a baptism performed in one church - I think it was Goldsithney, but the register was Perranuthnoe. So in the transcriptions it is recorded twice - at Goldsithney and Perranuthnoe. If the baptism was on the same date, that may be the same case with your ancestor.

Thanks Julie. Worth checking. I've remembered some puzzling baptisms with James' children now, so that could be it.

Re baptisms at St Ervan - you could try asking Susan Old, and exploring here - http://www.cornwall-opc.org/Par_new/e_g/ervan_st.php
And you could search the database - http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/ - for others.

Thanks Joy

Susan Old was the first outside person I contacted, way back when I knew nothing. I sent an email asking if she could tell me a little about my grandmother and she sent back 4 pages of ancestors going back generations! But she wasn't certain about James' baptisms either!

You're welcome :)
Could be worth searching the database again in case more have been added.
