Take one Grandparent - Week 4 - 22 - 28 Jul 2011

Of course, most people will already have all the basic info about their grandparents, and if so then you may or may not wish to post it up, but some people do have blanks to fill in or brick walls which they would like help with. We're expecting that the number of threads which need blanks filling in will be relatively low, so we will still be allowing each person to post up 2 threads per week (one for your own grandparent and one for your partner's). If your grandparent is still alive, of course don't post up their details unless you have their permission. And bear in mind that this board is open to everybody to view, i.e. including non-members and search engines.

This week, we are focussing on your father's father.

If you want to take part, just start a new thread on this board and put your grandfather's name in the Title. If you don't know his name then put whatever you like in the title! Copy the following form and fill in the answers that you already have, then over the course of the next week you try to fill in any blanks and everyone else helps you.

Can you fill in all of the following information about that person:

Name - "official" name and what they were known as
Date and place of birth
Names of parents
Details of each of his or her marriages - if any - and any divorces
Occupation(s) - if any
Military service - if any
Addresses where they lived - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on, if applicable.
Date, place and cause of death
Date and place of burial / cremation.
Details of will / administration of their estate - if applicable
Memorial inscription - if any

Adoptive or step-grandparents welcome! And partners' grandparents too.

If you're lucky enough to have all the information already, then you can still post it up if you want, so that search engines can pick it up.

What's next? We'll be bereft without anything to research?

I'm poised hoping there will be a new challenge tomorrow morning, Marg!

I'd like to go further back, but I know it's not feasible for everyone, although it should test the little grey cells.:)

We're taking a short break but should have a new challenge for you all soon.

I thought I didn't have any 4 x ggp but I just had a look and I have a few Russel and Drinnen/Drennan/Wilsons on the Scottish side which I had forgotten about and the Worleys on the English side which I expect Merry and Kiterunner could pull to peices to be honest - I inherited it from someone I thought at the time knew what they were doing but I'm not so sure now! That was a quite a few years ago - I have corrected a lot of my Worleys but not touched the 4xggp.
