I've looked for 1871 and the only candidate for Leicestershire so far is this one:

Mary Revell Head F 56 1815 Leicestershire
Thos Revell Son M 24 1847 Leicestershire
Elizebeth (sic) Freekinghan Niece F 9 1862 Leicestershire
William Thosby Lodger M 22 1849 Derbyshire
Ann Underwood Visitor F 64 1807 Leicestershire

The age is slightly out.
Could she have already died?

She could have died before 1871, i could`t find a suitable death for her though, the 1874 one i found says 69 which is about the right age and at least one of her children still lived there.

Thank you for looking.

There's an Ann Underwood, no age given, abode Leicester, buried in Melton Mowbray on 10/10/1863.

There are a few Ann Underwoods buried in the main Leicester cemetery (Welford Road), but none of them are the right age.

The 1963 death corresponds to this one:

Deaths Dec 1863
UNDERWOOD ANN Melton M 7a 114

I've corrected the page no., which should be 174.

There are also two burials in Melton Mowbray for James Underwood:

- 25/6/1855 aged 61

- 19/6/1862 aged 67, abode Melton Mowbray workhouse.

As Ann says she's a widow in 1861, I assume the first death is her husband's.

Any particular reason why you think they're the parents?

I've found the marriage, at Stathern, Leics.:

Thomas Cooper, of Harby, co. Leicester, & Alice Geezing, lic., 9 Jan. 1788

There's a Thomas Cooper, aged 75, living in Burton Lazars in 1841, with a wife (?) Mary and daughter (?) Ruth. Mary (from Stathern) is a widow in 1851, living with unmarried daughter Ruth, pauper, and granddaughter Fanny Underwood, aged 10.

There's a burial in Burton Lazars for a Thomas Cooper aged 84, buried on 16/2/1848, who probably corresponds to that 1841 Thomas.

Fanny's the daughter of James and Ann - she's living with them in 1841.

But I expect you already know all this :)

Hi Mary, Thomas was married twice, first to Alice Geezing in 1788, who died in 1805, he then married Mary ? about 1811 ?(i only have a submitted entry from IGI for this marriage),

I know there were 2 Ruths and a Ann to the second marriage (Leicester Mike from GR found them) Ruth 1812-1815, Ruth 1816-1853 and Ann 1817- ?

Thanks for the burial for Thomas Cooper, i have his death cert 13 /2 /1848

Ann`s first child Isaac was born 2 years before her marriage to James and the father on the baptism is Thomas Cooper (her father)???? or oldest Brother also Thomas born 1788???? eek

All the other children (9 in all) were baptised with parents James Underwood and Alice, i had discounted a Alice Shuttlewood with the help of Mike.

Thank you for looking Mary

I think you can discount that submitted entry - there's no date or church given, so it just looks like somebody's guesswork. I've checked the Leics. marriage index 1801-1837, and Phillimore's marriage index, and there's no marriage for a Thomas Cooper to a Mary in 1811. The nearest is Thomas Cooper to Mary Ward in Loughborough in 1812, and there are a few others in different parishes. There's nothing for those names in Stathern, Burton Lazars or Melton Mowbray. There are also several marriages for Thomas Coopers to Marys in the various Leicester city churches.

The first Ruth was buried in Burton Lazars 28/9/1815 aged 3, and the second one 20/5/1853 aged 36. Mary Cooper was buried there on 8/2/1860 aged 78. Alice isn't on the index I have, because it only starts in 1813. There are no other Cooper burials in Burton Lazars on my index (1813-91).

Bit odd, that. Sounds like a mistake (nobody would have admitted to incest, I'm sure).

Gert in Oz 14-02-10 13:14

Thank you for those Mary, that baptism does sound odd, but Mike also found it in the parish records, we both wondered about the fathers name. LOL

Off to bed, its gone 1am.
