Annie Simpson - 1881?

Edward Walter Simpson marries Mary Ann Holloway in 1875 @ St Lawrence, New Brentford https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interacti...&usePUBJs=true

Their daughter Annie Lydia Victoria is born later that year in Isleworth, Middlesex. The baptism isn't on Ancestry but a transcription is on FMP and Mary Ann is named as Annie. They don't appear to have any further children.

This is Mary Ann and Annie in 1891. Mary Ann is a servant and widowed and Annie a visitor. https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bi...=successSource

And I think this is probably Mary Ann in 1881, a widowed servant

But where is Annie? And while we're at it I can't spot a death for Edward either....

Edit to say that I have Annie's marriage and later life, thanks!

Does that mean you just need Edward's death?

He died 7 Nov 1878 aged 25. A corporal in E/B RHA (Royal Horse Artillery). He died from an abcess of the liver.

There is an Annie L Wells of the right age (5) born Isleworth, granddaughter to a George Wells age 41 and his wife Eliza, 50:

Just thought I would mention her since George seems a bit young to be her grandfather and I'm betting he is Eliza's second husband and that this Annie is Eliza's granddaughter, not George's. I don't suppose your Mary Ann had a mother named Eliza?

Thank you Merry! Where did you find that? I thought I'd looked at all the death/military records! Obviously not....

It looks very possible doesn't it?

I don't know Mary Ann's mother. Her father was a Charles according to the marriage record and to complicate matters further I can't find her in any census before her marriage. I'm going to have to get a birth certificate - something I was hoping to avoid as I'm doing this tree for my sister in law.

The only birth reg I can see is in Basingstoke 1857 and the mother's name is Barlow - can I find a marriage? No, of course not but maybe I'm being dumb again!

UK Census Online says it has a Charles Holloway, blacksmith (as on Mary Ann's marriage cert) age 48 in Berkshire on the 1861 census. If only I could find him on another site!

Ah, I think they may mean the one in Egham, Surrey? But he doesn't have a daughter Mary Ann with him in 1861. His birthplace is Staines and he has a wife Sarah, in case we need to come back to him.

One of the witnesses on Mary Ann's marriage is an Elizabeth Lydia Simpson. Whether that's a mother, sister or in law is anyone 's guess...
