TNA question

I've found 4 documents on the TNA where OH's 6g grandfather's aunt takes a minor of OH's 6g grandfather name to court. I'm not sure if it actually is his 6g grandfather as I suspect that the name will be repeated in any male line but I am hoping that it has something to do with an inheritance and that wills of possibly both OH's 8g grandfathers will be among the paperwork.

On the TNA website it will cost me 8.40 pounds per item for the TNA staff to locate the items and see if they are able to be copied, then there will be costs involved in the copying.

My question is would that fee apply if I was able to go to the TNA and ordered the documents to view myself?

Also what are the TNA's policies about taking photos of documents?

Here's info on viewing records at TNA reading rooms:

and about using a camera etc:

Come to the UK, Kit!

TNA is tremendous fun.

You have to sign your name in blood before they let you loose on documents, but once you are in, you can take photos to your heart's content, or email scanned documents - a better option for books or genuinely flat documents.

Thanks Merry. I'll have a look.

Phoenix I'd love to come but it wont be soon. My Dad however is making noises that he misses home so if he goes I'll make him visit for me.

When I do come I'll be sure to let you know and we can have a day out together. I'll pre-order everything I can, copy it and look later. Although I can see me needing a week or two at least.

So the copying rules seem to be similar to those over here. Do you need to wear gloves Phoenix? Last time I went to the archives here they had bought in wearing plastic gloves, rather than white cotton gloves. Said it was better for the documents but the plastic ones made my hands sweat so I found it harder to operate than with cotton gloves.

They decided that you might do more damage to the books by wearing gloves, so you do actually get to handle them.

The only time I ever wore gloves was when the heating wasn't working!
