Mrs Dickinson (could be Mary)

Nothing much about this lady...

Her daughter was Ann Dickinson born about 1847 in Lancs.

1871...............Ann (widow of Daniel Hart) and daughter, Alice, aged 1, are living with her parents, John and Mary Dickinson. Parish of Bedford, town of Leigh.

I have no idea if Mary is Ann's mother or she married John later.

The family are at Jones's Square, Bedford, on all the censuses from 1841 up to 1871 and Mary born about 1804-5 is on all of them, with her birthplace being Burton Wood, Lancs, on 1851, 1861 and 1871 (Lancs on 1841). So she must be Ann's mother. There are births on Lancashire BMD for Henry Dickinson 1842, Martha 1844 and Ann 1847 at Culcheth sub-district, all with mother's maiden name Ashton. Also an Ellen born in 1840 (with an Ellen Dickinson death in the same place in 1840, age 0). Bedford is in the Culcheth sub-district on the 1841 census, so that looks right.

Lancashire OPC has a marriage 25 Dec 1823 at St Mary the Virgin, Leigh, between John Dickinson, spinner, of Leigh parish, and Mary Ashton, spinster, of Leigh parish. Married by banns, witnesses Samuel Whittle and Timothy Taylor.

Back to Lancs BMD and there is a Mary Dickenson death in Culcheth sub-district in 1881, age 76, and a John Dickinson death in 1876, age 75.

Possible baptism on Lancs OPC: 17 Jun 1804 St Michael, Burtonwood, Mary d of John and Betty Ashton in Burtonwood, a farmer. The Dickinsons' eldest daughter on the 1841 census is called Elizabeth and their second son is called John, so that fits nicely (of course they're very common names and he could have been named after John Dickinson!)

Found this family on the 1841 census at Collins Green, Burtonwood:
John Ashton 60 Farmer Y
Betty Do 60 Y
William Do 20 Y
Ann Do 20 Y
Jane Do 9 Y

(Hundred is West Derby and civil parish is Warrington.)

Thanks you so much. I did figure last night that Mary was probably Ann's mother.

I did see some Dickinsons on Lancs BMD and OPC but had no idea of the districts....
