Scottish research

Could someone who has access to Scotland’s People kindly do a look up please.

Alec Campbell
Son of John Gray and Agnes Fleming Campbell
DOB - 1921 - probably Kilmarnock - just maybe Rutherglen

He had 2 brothers Thomas and John - and later, when John Gray died - and Agnes remarried - a sister Louisa.

When did Alec marry - to whom, and what children they had.

Scotland's People is pay as you go to view images, Dorothy. Everybody has access to the free searches - all you have to do is make a free account and log in. But I doubt that there will be enough information from free searches to answer your questions since Alec Campbell is such a common name.

Wait - is his name Alec Campbell Gray, son of John Gray, or is he Alec Campbell, son of John Gray Campbell?

kiterunner 20-01-24 22:43

If his name is Alec Campbell Gray, then the free search shows the birth of an Alexander Campb Gray in 1920 in Blantyre, and the marriage of a John Gray and an Agnes F Campbell in 1918 in Blythswood.

And there is the death of Alexander Campb Gray in 1981 in Kilmarnock, age 61, mother's maiden name Campbell.

But there are quite a few Alexander Campb Gray marriages to choose from (also quite a few deaths but that one fits best with your info). If the above death is the right one, and you order a copy of the death cert, it might give info about his wife if she was the informant. Otherwise you might have to pay to view the marriage certs starting with the most likely until you get the right one.

Kite - thanks for looking in so quickly :)

As far as I know he is just Alec Gray, son of John Gray and his wife Agnes Gray (nee Campbell) - Fleming was her middle name.
Not sure whether he was actually christened Alexander - but death in 1981 in Kilmarnock could be right. But the death cert wouldn’t tell me about children would it?

The marriage details you give are correct for John and Agnes.

It is possible that one of his children was the informant. When you have found the correct marriage, you can search for children - I think it does let you use mother's maiden name in the birth search now but not all birth records are indexed by MMN so it might not help.

OK - thanks Kite.

I should add that if anybody does have info about the children, they should send Dorothy a PM because the children are most probably still alive.

I have now got the info I wanted :)
