Edward Redman of Denham
 

With much help from your good selves, I have been able to trace my Bucks.

ancestry back to 8 x g/grandfather Edward Redman, a weaver of Denham,

who died in 1681.

I've discovered quite a bit about Edward - he married Hanna(h) Titnall /Titball

(stop it!) in Uxbridge in March 1653 & had two daughters, Margaret & Hannah

(my 7xg/grandmother) who survived him. Margaret m Richard Reynor/Raynor

& in 1682 Hannah m John Trenley.

Having gone further back than I ever thought possible, I now find myself

itching to find out more.I don't really know how to proceed with searching for

very early records & would very much appreciate being pointed in the right

direction re Edward or Hanna(h)'s origins.

I would search the Buckinghamshire archives catalogue:
http://archives.buckscc.gov.uk/

also TNA's "Discovery" catalogue:
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

And Google around for information about him and any other Redmans from Denham. Also search ancestry for something like surname R*d*m*n*, keyword denh* and see what comes up. Going that far back, you have to allow for all sorts of variant spellings of names and placenames.

Also, of course, look for parish registers.

Then if nothing comes up to help on those searches, I would look through any other wills of people who lived at Denham around the same time to see whether they mention the Redmans.

Also look to see if anyone else on ancestry has him in their tree, and if they have parents' names, see whether you can find something to confirm whether they are correct.

Thanks, Kite. I do have a few suspects for his parentage, just needed a nudge in the right

direction. You know how it is - you're really grateful to have got that far & then curiosity

gets the better of you & you want to go even further.

It looks as though there was a Thomas Redman at Denham before Edward.

Unfortunately it doesn't look as though there are online transcriptions of the early Denham parish registers apart from marriages, although GENUKI says the record office has them back to the 16th century:

I am also descended from the Trenley. I am very interested in the name. To date I am unable to find the origin of the name. Could it be Cornish?

I also now live a stones throw from Denham and quite often visit the Falcon Inn and the Blacksmith cottage and Forge are still there.
