Findmypast will digitise the 1921 Census

To be published online in Jan 2022. I wonder whether all counties will be available then, or will it be released county by county like previous censuses have been?

Just under 3 years to wait!

There is a "Register" button which I assume is to sign up for newsletters, but when I clicked it it just took me to my FMP dashboard.

Good news but it seems so long to wait.

It will be the first census my mum appeared on she was 3 months old on 19th June 1921.

Techniques of digital scanning must have improved so much in the last decade. Remember the huge fuss over how long the 1911 would take?

I don't know the questions on the 1921, but remember reading a contemporary newspaper article, complaining about the number of columns to be filled in.

Which censuses were released month by month, Kite? I know the 1881 was indexed by county (blame me for some of Southwark's mistranscriptions) but the actual release date was Jan 1982. And I'd mopped up all but one of my ancestors on the 1901 by noon on 2 Jan 2002.

Ooh, I'm jealous. Grandma was pregnant, but Dad was born later in the year. I'm already on more censuses than he ever was.

My Mum will be there. She would have been nearly 2. I expect my grandfather was away in the RN.

I can't remember offhand which ones, sorry.

My grandma will finally make an appearance.

I wonder if my grandad was ever on a census? Was there a 1951 census? I think that's my best shot, assuming I live that long.

I should be able to find one parent, all four grandparents and eight great-grandparents, but none of my 16 great-great-grandparents.

OH should find one parent, two grandparents and just one great-grandparent. Most of the others lived in different countries.

I can't remember which census were released a few counties at a time, except for the 1911 which I'm sure was done in that fashion.

The last column looks interesting but I'm not sure they thought it through very well. What if there were twins or triplets, or a stepchild the same age as the person's own child? Would they manage to put two or three X's in the same box?

And what's the betting that we find a lot of married women and unmarried mothers filled that column in although it says married men, widowers and widows only?! Though of course it will be useful if they did.

I should find three grandparents (and the other if she came to school in England earlier than we were told), three great-grandparents, and three great-great-grandparents. But I'm most interested in seeing where my great-uncle's wife was born! I will also be interested to see how many living children my great-uncle claims to have.
