I'm looking at the Almondbury baptism:

"Alice dr of Joseph Pogson of Causwayfoot in Lingarths?"
http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/22...l=ReturnRecord

I can't find Lingards/Lingarth, but there is a Lingards Road in/near Slaithwaite.

ElizabethHerts 16-08-13 18:17

So this is her first marriage:
http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/22...l=ReturnRecord

John Shaw was from Huddersfield.

Hmm, could this be a child:

http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/22...l=ReturnRecord

Alice's maiden name is incorrect, but close in pronunciation.

Name: Rowland Shaw
Parish: Almondbury, All Hallows
Baptism Date: 16 Jun 1816
Father's Name: John Shaw
Mother's Name: Alice Dodson

ElizabethHerts 16-08-13 18:29

Possible children:

Name: Thomas Shaw
Parish: Slaithwaite with East Scammonden, St James
Baptism Date: 24 Aug 1817
Father's Name: John Shaw
Mother's Name: Alice Shaw

http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/22...l=ReturnRecord

Oh dear, this is too late as Alice had married again.

Name: Martha Shaw
Parish: Slaithwaite with East Scammonden, St James
Baptism Date: 1 Mar 1823

http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/22...l=ReturnRecord

Father's Name: John Shaw
Mother's Name: Alice Shaw

ElizabethHerts 16-08-13 18:52

So the marriage is on family search:
Name: Samuel Woodhead
Spouse's Name: Alice Shaw
Event Date: 1821
Event Place: Saddleworth, York, England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M13533-9

The 1851 census form has obviously been damaged, and FMP have transcribed Alice incorrectly. This is the Ancestry one:

It's the 1841 census that gives clues about the Shaw marriage:

1841 Census
WOODHEAD, Alice
ASHTON
Hill, Oldham Cum Prestwich, Oldham Above Town, Oldham
WOODHEAD, Saml M 50 1791
WOODHEAD, Alice F 50 1791
WOODHEAD, Saml M 25 1816 Lancashire
WOODHEAD, Betty F 15 1826 Lancashire
WOODHEAD, Mary F 15 1826 Lancashire
WOODHEAD, Nancy F 9 1832 Lancashire
SHAW, Thos M 20 1821

So the Thomas Shaw baptism I have seems to be correct. The age is slightly out, but with the 1841 census you would expect that.

We need a burial:

Thomas' baptism says the family was living at Booth Banks.

Here is a burial for John Shaw whose abode was Booth Banks. The date is 3rd July 1820. He was 47, so born 1773.

Thanks Liza .. I will go looking again .. I do have some of this .. I'm not sure if what was found earlier is on Woodhead or thickhead thread lol .. (I've just put a summary on Betty's thread)

According to Wiki - a Geographical report of 1868 - Lingarths or Lingards was a hamlet outside Slaithwaite. Lingards Wood is now sandwiched between Manchester Road and Lingards Rd. Causeway Foot is probably known locally. Booth Banks is not far outside Slaithwaite on the other side of the Manchester rd at the back of the Colne river and Huddersfield Canal.

Hi Julie, I was trying to look at the Pogsons but I had to work out the geography first.

I find Genuki very useful:

I'll have another look later.
