Help reading old script please.

John Harper marries Ann Butcher (?) in St Ebbe, Oxford in 1667.

The record states he is "of somewhere" but I can't make out where, it might even be Oxford but I don't think so. It's the first entry in 1667.

Thanks

Looks like Oake. I wonder where that would be, though.

Thanks Kite. I'm looking at a couple matches trees which share this couple. They have him coming from Noke, Oxfordshire. There is a baptism there but no other proof that I can see.

Yes, I can imagine Noke becoming Oake.

I think I'm discounting these trees for now as they're full of silly errors/suppositions!

They have his wife born 1646 in Northants, which is believable, maybe. But then she gives birth in Scotland aged 7yrs, landing in Maryland in 1659 but back in Oxford to marry and produce 6 more children from 1667-1683 before giving birth again in Pennsylvania in 1684.... And that's just one person in this tree.

Thanks for looking Kite.
