School records - findmypast

"As part of a landmark digitisation project involving schools, record offices and archives, you can now explore over 2.5 million National School Admission Registers & Log-books 1870-1914 on Findmypast."

Ooh, thanks, Elizabeth!

Here is the link to their blog with info:

http://blog.findmypast.co.uk/2014/2-...rds-published/

and to the search screen:
http://search.findmypast.co.uk/searc...925.1289493982

They say that "The records will be released in three phases. This release includes records from 1500 schools from 12 counties across England and Wales – Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Cheshire, Devon, Huntingdonshire, Kent, Lancashire, Middlesex, Surrey, Wiltshire and Glamorganshire – and also Westminster. The next phases will be in Spring 2015 and Autumn 2015."

Makes me wonder what is the point of their new "Findmypast Fridays" if they release a massive database like this on a Monday?!

Jill 22-09-14 13:42

It must be "missed it off Monday"

^ :D :D :D at Jill's post ^

They don't seem to be as complete as the records on Ancestry, although I have found my great uncle on FMP but not on Ancestry. Three of his sisters, also at the same school, are on Ancestry but not on FMP.

No log booksor attendance records for their schools though :(

kiterunner 25-09-14 11:03

I wish they weren't described as "historic school records" in FMP's news section.

Can't find my b.grandfather in Salford in 1911 - b1901 in Burnley.

kiterunner 25-09-14 12:21

Could he have gone to a private school, Julie?

JBee 25-09-14 16:41

No way Kate - though might have gone to an RC school.

These records are coming up when you click on "Findmypast Fridays" now, so I guess they are today's new records. So "Findmypast Fridays" is just a way of highlighting any databases that have been released over the past week!

kiterunner 21-11-14 07:11

Records for Anglesey and Plymouth and West Devon have been added today. Doesn't quite fit with the phases that they announced before but good news.
