German translation help, please

I'm looking at a German baptism in 1848. The transcription is very helpful but it seems to me that the original contains a lot more information. Can anyone help please?

Heinrich Herman Schnaars, b 6 Nov 1848. The image is item 135 on the left hand page.

Thank you x

It says his father was a carpenter and gives the names of the godparents. Hopefully someone who is better at German than me can decipher the rest.

The page won't open for me.

Thanks for looking Kite and Elizabeth - I'm not sure why it won't open for you Elizabeth?

I have another question! Heinrich Herman married in London and gives his father's name as Diedrich. On the baptism record it is Ahrend Diedrich. Is dropping the first name a standard practice in Germany? Heinrich and his German born wife both use their middle names in later censuses ....

kiterunner 27-04-23 21:41

Yes, it is very common for the first name not to be used.

Ahrend Diedrich Schnaars married Rebecke Lenore Lankenau in Worpswede, Hanover Germany - the record is on www.geneanet.org

Ancestry has a good message board for help with translating German documents:

Allan - thank you for that. Ahrend Dietrich's wife in the baptism record is Maria but I will look into the other records.

Kite and Elizabeth, my laptop has just died and I can't handle Ancestry on my phone:d If/ when I get it working again I'll try to repost a link to the record and check out the German translation group.

Thanks again
