Sussex bp, mar, burs on Ancestry

Suddenly noticed that images are available for both East and West Sussex!

kiterunner 20-05-22 15:11

That's good news, Phoenix. I can't see them on the new and updated databases or the card catalogue yet. I've been waiting for them for a long time!

Here are some links:

Actually, I can't find the West Sussex records, no matter what I try! Can you post a link to one, please, Phoenix?

Phoenix 20-05-22 15:25

Here's one: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discovery...=successSource

Thanks, Phoenix. I will add the West Sussex links to post #3.

At least you get a drop down list!

Off to check whether Hurstpierpoint marriages are online at all... The early ones post 1754 I suspect are in the combined register, and I'm not convinced they have been filmed. Either that, or a volume is missing

kiterunner 20-05-22 17:19

They are all showing in the card catalogue now, except for East Sussex Marriages and Banns.

I have managed to remember Eastbourne = East Sussex! Other than that I keep having to look them up.

Some information about my 10x-grandfather Edward Wood, rector of Hamsey:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...cklabel=Return

I'm not quite sure why he or someone else seems to have used the page to practice writing the phrase "most loving"?

The baptism entries for his own children give extra info such as the day of the week and the exact time that they were born. Continuing the way that his father in law, Samuel Norden, had done it for his own children's baptisms.

Ancestry seem to have ducked out of transcribing some of the handwritten parish register pages if there are typed transcripts available (or even if there aren't).

East Sussex Marriages and Banns are now online!

Phoenix 24-05-22 08:00

Don't know whether this is absolutely the case, but searching West Sussex bps simply by place, the results appear in a strict chronological order, rather than at random. This makes searching so much easier!

kiterunner 01-11-22 16:15

The West Sussex baptisms, marriages and burials 1538-1812 have just been updated. I don't know what has been added, if anything.

The East Sussex baptisms, marriages, and burials 1538-1812 have just been updated.
