This is a possible:

Marriages Jun 1851

DAVID Anne Cardiff 26 697
Flin John Cardiff 26 697 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Hopkins Mary Cardiff 26 697 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
JONES Anne Cardiff 26 697
JONES Jenkin Cardiff 26 697
Llewelyn George Cardiff 26 697
Thomas Howell Cardiff 26 697
Williams Mary Cardiff 26 697

and is this them?

1851 Rhiw, Llantwitvairdre (that's Ancestry's spelling, but I think it's the same place as Llantwit Fardre where they were in 1861). Ages are a bit off but places of birth and his occ are good:

John Fling head m 25 Blacksmith b Ireland
Mary Fling wife m 25 b Llantrisant Glamorgan

Have you checked these two out? Ages are a bit out, but I agree they are hiding in 1891 if still alive!

Deaths Sep 1890
Flynn Mary 67 Cardiff 11a 126

Deaths Mar 1891
Flynn John 70 Cardiff 11a 202

Thanks Merry, the census looks sure to be them.
Not sure about the marriage and death, marriage date would work, but it's the Cardiff bit that's throwing me, would have thought they would have married in the Pontypridd area.

I went by the fact that where they were living in 1851/61 was in Cardiff district until 1863.

Llantwit Fardre GLA 1837 1863 Cardiff
Llantwit Fardre GLA 1863 1974 Pontypridd transferred to MGM in 1974

Good point Merry, that marriage is probably them then.
Thank you.

There's a Catherine and Hannah Flinn in Llantwit Fardre aged 55 and 22 respectively in 1851. Maybe they are mother and sister to John?

Could be, I've never looked for his family, always assumed he came to Wales on his own, not sure why.
I think I'll order their marriage certificate, to get his Dad's name.
