Private messaging system - findmypast
 

I've just seen this on Facebook:

Yesterday we launched our exciting new Private Messaging feature to UK users - access for all other users will follow soon. There are answers available for most queries here in the FAQs:

I hadn't heard anything from FMP about it, and I know I checked my spam folder very recently too. But I suppose they still think I live in Australia, for some unknown reason, so I guess I will get it when they roll it out to other countries. Has anyone tried it out yet?

I've had the message, but as I have very limited trees there, I'm unlikely to get many messages.

Hmm, I have got an inbox on there now, and if I look at a tree hint I have the option to "Message the tree owner", so either they know I am in the UK and my email got lost, or they have actually rolled it out to everyone but just not let people in the rest of the world know about it yet.

Ah - "The feature is only available on findmypast.co.uk at the moment. It will arrive on findmypast.com, findmypast.com.au and findmypast.ie soon."

So if you are outside the UK, just use the UK website to send messages if you want to send some. I don't know what happens if you want to send a message to someone who isn't in the UK - will it block you from sending it, or would they have to go onto the UK website to see it?

I just noticed a red dot on the envelope symbol in the top right-hand corner of the FMP page, and when I clicked on it, I found out I had two messages, both sent to me in November. Shame FMP never sent me an email about these! I do have Private Messaging Emails enabled in my "Communication Preferences".
