This year sees the centenary of the start of the First World War (28th July), so there is an upsurge of interest in finding out about what our ancestors and relatives did and experienced during that war. The aim of this board is to help with your research into the WW1 service of anyone in your tree, whether you have quite a lot of information about their record and want to fill in a few gaps, or if you think they would have served in the war but have no information at all!

We are expecting this board to be quite busy, so we ask that each member restricts his or herself to posting one thread per week, please. We will be keeping the board going for as long as there is demand for it, so there is no need to get all your ancestors posted up quickly! Give your thread a title of the name of the person you are researching. And please include in your post, their date and place of birth (if you have it), any information you have about where they were living before and / or during WW1, their pre-war occupation, parents, marriage (if they married before or during the war), and of course any information you already have about their wartime service, such as regiment, rank, service number(s), medals, places they served, battles they took part in. If they died during the war, any information you have about their death too. And say what you are particularly hoping to find out!

Please do not post identifying details (such as first name, date of birth) of any children of your ancestor / relative who may still be living, unless you have their permission. You can post other information from their birth certificates / baptism records, such as address and father or mother's occupation. If the date of birth is less than 100 years ago and you are not sure they are deceased, assume for this purpose that they are still alive.
