Good Morning ...if anyone has time on their hands this morning ,I would appreciate any assistance in finding out about this village in Ukraine -
Knyahynychi - by Rohatyn ...
I received an attachment this morning from Ivano - Frankivsk Archives , Ukraine ...
AT LAST - we now know that my father in law was from the village of
Knyahynychi as there are records for the family in 1937 ...he was born 1927 ...( close to Rohatyn which is where we believed him to be from )..
Knyahynychi population in 2001 was 718 ...so a small village - no wonder my wife sent them clothes parcels until 1976 as they must have been poor people who were controlled by the Russians from 1930`s ...the Black Famine of Ukraine was in 1932 - caused by the Russian Oppression ...

anyway ...I have googled the village but almost all all links are in Ukranian ...
I am going to try and translate them ...but any help will be appreciated if anyone else can find info on Knyahynychi..

I am struggling here ....I think this is a brick wall ....if there are no replies within a couple of hours I would suggest the thread is deleted because I can`t find anything on this village ??....very sad ...I was delighted to find the village he was from - but sadly there is no info on the village ...

ADDED...Thanks Kate ...great pictures ....still looks like a poor place doesn`t it ?....

That crack in the cottage wall looks a bit ominous.

However I think the village is in keeping with much of eastern europe. You will notice the modern buildings seem to be apartments.

My son's girlfriend's parents have just moved from a flat which was the norm and now has a house in 12/13 acres of land. Think she helped purchase it as western money goes a long way over there.

Her family came over for a visit and were amazed at the choice in the shops and the large supermarkets with food from all over the world - something quite alien to them.
