I do know there was a son, John Charles Shepherd, born about 1812, Charlton, Devon, who married Mary Mitchelmore 1836, Charlton, and came to Australia.

Is Charlton the same as Charleton? There is a site with transcriptions of Charleton burials 1813-1833 http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~our4bears/C~ARLbur.htm

There are quite a few Shepherds etc on there, including Susan Shepperd of East Charleton buried 23 Nov 1821 age 34 and John Shepherd of Charleton buried 6 Oct 1861 age 69.
