What about his father's details from the marriage cert? (or was the date a transcription?!)

lozaras 07-03-11 09:32

oops - you're right Merry

His father's name was John Horrell on the marriage cert.

I do have some info about people that may be his parents but I don't want to put it up because I think it's not 'solid' enough. "a very reputable researcher told me, so it must be true" is what my contact said.

I contacted this very reputable researcher who told me why he thought it to be true but I'm still not convinced....

kiterunner 07-03-11 09:33

Does it give his father's occupation on the marriage cert? And what were the witnesses' names?

lozaras 07-03-11 09:36

Father's occupation 'labourer'................lol! not too helpful is it? Especially with all the name variations and the moving from Crediton to South Devon too.

Witnesses: John Adams & Susan Beard..... I have no idea who they are

kiterunner 07-03-11 10:28

A John Adams married a Grace Horrel 15 Jul 1804 at Cheriton Fitzpaine, Devon, but it's probably just a coincidence. Unless Grace Horrel is in your contact's tree!

Thanks Kate, I'll look into that.

The 'reputable researcher' has based all his research around Newton St Cyres & Upton Pyne.... (PR's that are online).

Grrrrr.....
I've just checked the IGI for Shobrooke:
There are birth records for the Horrell(+variants) name between 1750 & 1781 (4 sets of parents).
and marriage records 1751-1804 but the male Horrell marriages are 1751, 1761, 1782, & 1787.

It's all too early for my chap born in 1816. :(:(

I went through the registers in Devon Records Office too a couple of years ago - :(
