George Wills (MMMMF)

Name - "official" name and what they were known as

George Edward Wills

Date and place of birth

c1810, Norwich

Names of parents

Possibly George and Mary Wills - there are two people with those names living in the same street as George in 1841, but I've got nothing to prove they're his parents and they're respectively 55 and 45 years older than him, which makes it a bit unlikely.

FamilySearch has the marriage as George Edward Wills / Rebecca Ames, 9 Jul 1833, but they give the place just as Norwich, which isn't very helpful!

The baptism is on FamilySearch too, somewhat more helpful - George Edward Wells baptised 21 Jan 1810 St Augustine, Norwich, parents George Wells and Mary Cook. I'll see if I can find the image on there.

Norfolk Parish Registers - Norwich, St Augustine - Baptisms, Burials - 1804-1812 - image 17 of 58
Entry number 372
George Edward son of George Wills & Mary his wife late Cook spinster born Jany 13th baptised 21st.

The surname is definitely Wills, not Wells, on the image. It looks as though Wells was originally written, then corrected to Wills.

FamilySearch has a burial for a sister of George Edward - Harriet Willes buried 21 Jan 1801, parents George Willes and Mary Cooke, but again it just says "Norwich" for the place!

kiterunner 22-06-11 12:54

Burial of George senior - 18 Apr 1844 Heigham, age 89. And Mary Wills 16 Sep 1850 Heigham, also age 89.

Thanks for that, Kite. I've found the Norfolk Churches entry for St Augustine's:

The church itself looks interesting, but he isn't too complimentary about the nearby buildings!
